120 hour formalised voluntary training program

This route allows a gentle step into the world of work and is good for helping build confidence, and to learn the routines and expectations around employment. As well as working in a busy environment, this pathway includes, but is not limited to:

  • Experience of working in a busy café 

  • Food hygiene qualification 

  • Basic barista training 

  • Training on putting orders on to the payment system and taking payments. 

  • Reference for future employer 

  • Uniform, including black trainers 

  • A supportive environment where you will be heard and listened to 

  • Bus fares to and from work.  

  • A free meal & hot drinks whilst working 

  • Help with obtaining photo ID (needed for employment)

  • Wellbeing coaching 

  • Access to 1:1 or group counselling 

  • Allergen training 

  • Advanced Barista training (resulting in a certificate) 

  • An interview outfit for next employment

Paid employment

The 120 hour formalised voluntary program often leads to there being a paid role. Fixed term contracts of 6 months are offered, and reviewed throughout, before helping to transition on to employment with other local employers.

This paid route takes into account working with circumstances around housing and benefits, and we have support in house to help with the financial aspects of this. 

  • Experience of working in a busy café

  • Basic barista training 

  • Training on till 

  • Reference for future employer 

  • Uniform, including black trainers 

  • A supportive environment where you will be heard and listened to  

  • A free meal & hot drinks whilst working 

  • Help with obtaining photo ID (needed for employment)

  • Wellbeing coaching 

  • Access to 1:1 or group counselling 

  • Allergen training 

  • Advanced Barista training (resulting in an industry recognised certificate) 

  • Hourly rate of the Real Living wage - currently £12 an hour

  • Ongoing support when moving on to new employment opportunities
